A Midrash

This poem is my response to a sermon recently preached at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

A link to the video of that sermon can be found here: Holding on Til the End

The text of the sermon, and the poem is Hebrew 3:7-19

The Spirit speaks:

Hear the call

Don’t hearts harden

Before they fall?

Fathers put you

To the test

Twas forty years

Before the rest

A generation

That went astray

A holy people

Went their own way

Take care, brothers

Least you fall away

By a hardened heart

That leads astray

Sin is deceitful

So exhort

Each other daily

As His Word has taught

You share in Christ

If you hold fast

What He started

Must be in the last

We pray “Jesus

Help our doubt

Least we see glory

But we’re left out”

We come to Jesus

With hearts of stone

You must change us

And you alone
