1702

This poem is based on Hebrews 4:14-5:4

It is poem that follows the 6.6.6.6 meter

We have a great High Priest

Jesus, the Son of God

Who passed through the heavens

Hold fast to Him alone

He’s not so unlike us

But He can sympathise

Tempted in every-way

To sin He did not yield

Therefore we boldly come

To the throne of His grace

That mercy we’d obtain

And find much needed help

He’s not a priest from man

Nor appointed He by them

Rather, approved by God

To offer blood for sin

He has compassion on

Those who are ignorant

On those who go astray

For He became like them

Yet always without sin

That He might bear the wrath

And dying in our place

Bid us to call on Him

To Him is all the honor

Due a great High Priest

Calls us to our Father

To throne of mercy and grace
